Vakhtang Kikabidze

Vakhtang Kikabidze was born into a family steeped in culture—his father Konstantin worked as a journalist, while his mother, descended from the noble Bagrationi line, was a celebrated singer. Tragedy struck in 1942 when Konstantin fell in battle near Kerch. Young Vakhtang pursued higher education at Tbilisi University from 1956 to 1959, then continued at the Institute of Foreign Languages until 1963.

His artistic path began in 1959 with the Tbilisi Philharmonic, and by 1967 he had become a featured soloist with the popular ensemble "Orera." His silver-screen debut came in 1966 with a role in "Meeting in the Mountains." Beyond performing, Kikabidze proved his versatility as a writer and director, helming two feature films: "Be Healthy, Dear," which earned the top prize at the International Comedy Film Festival in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, and "Men and All Others." His contributions to Georgian culture were formally recognized in 1980 when he was named People's Artist of the Georgian SSR.
