Mohan Raja

Mohan Raja is a prominent Indian filmmaker recognized for his impactful contributions to Tamil cinema. Over the course of his career, he has directed eight feature films, with a distinctive focus on reimagining successful stories for Tamil audiences—seven of his eight projects being remakes that he skillfully adapted to resonate with local sensibilities.

Raja made his directorial debut with the action-drama *Jayam* (2003), which immediately established him as a director with a keen commercial instinct. He went on to helm a series of commercially successful films, including *M. Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi* (2004), *Unakkum Enakkum* (2006), and *Santosh Subramaniam* (2008), the latter earning widespread acclaim for its family-centric narrative. His 2011 film *Velayudham*, starring Vijay, became one of his most notable box-office successes, blending action and social commentary.

In 2014, Raja delivered *Thani Oruvan*, his first original screenplay, which became a critical and commercial milestone. The film, praised for its gripping narrative and powerful performances, won several awards, including the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Film and Best Director.
