Cheenu Mohan

Cheenu Mohan was a Tamil film actor whose understated presence left a lasting impression on audiences. Best remembered for his roles in *Thalapathi* (1991) and *Iraivi* (2016), he passed away on 27 December 2018 following a cardiac arrest.

Mohan stepped into the film world in the late 1980s with minor appearances in *Varusham Padhinaaru* (1989), followed by roles in Mani Ratnam’s *Anjali* (1990) and *Thalapathi* (1991). After stepping away from the silver screen in 2001, he devoted himself to theatre, taking on lead roles in productions helmed by Crazy Mohan and Maadhu Balaji. His deep commitment to the stage and his disinterest in television work kept him away from cinema for over a decade.

His return came with Karthik Subbaraj’s ensemble drama *Iraivi* (2016), where he played John, an antiques dealer striving to keep his fractured family intact. The performance earned widespread praise, with one critic describing him as “fantastic in the melodramatic scenes.” The acclaim opened new doors, leading to roles in Manikandan’s *Aandavan Kattalai* (2016) and Vetrimaaran’s *Vada Chennai* (2017). Though his filmography was modest, Cheenu Mohan’s late-career work showcased a quiet, compelling talent that resonated deeply with viewers.
