State of Play (2003)

S1E1 Episode 1

In a London street, teenager Kelvin Stagg is shot and killed. Soon after, politician Stephen Collins is devastated to learn that his assistant, Sonia Baker, has died after being struck by a train. A newspaper editor assigns journalist Cal McCaffrey, who previously managed Stephen’s campaign, to investigate any ties between the two fatalities. During his search, McCaffrey discovers that the deceased teenager had taken a silver metallic briefcase. Upon tracking it down, he uncovers photographs of Stephen and Sonia inside, along with a gun.
