During the festive Christmas season, Simon uncovers that Rose (Sarah Thompson) might be hiding something, leading him to question his parents' warnings against rushing into marriage. Meanwhile, tensions rise between Kevin and Martin as they argue about Martin's readiness for fatherhood. Eric and Annie finally permit Ruthie to date Jack (guest star Garrett Strommen). Simon visits Glen Oak to chat with Eric and enjoy some pie. Rose confides in her father about her embarrassment over his failed marriages and her mother's past relationships, which is why she hasn't introduced Simon to her family. Philip advises Rose to postpone marriage and simply live with Simon, but she struggles with the thought, recalling the Camden family's disdain for her.
