In London, 1948, Hortense arrives to join her new husband, Gilbert, who is staying with Queenie Bligh. Both women find themselves in unfulfilling marriages, as love is a luxury they cannot afford. As Hortense reflects on her past in Jamaica, she recalls her deep love for Michael and the betrayal that shattered her. Meanwhile, Queenie reminisces about a passionate night shared with Michael while her husband was off fighting in the war. Though they start off wary of one another, will they discover the hidden connection that binds them?
