During a community theater performance of The Wizard of Oz, a cherished local figure is murdered. The sheriff's investigation leads him to suspect the town's pharmacist, as it turns out the victim was involved in a romantic affair with the pharmacist's daughter. While the dead man's wife admits to a role in the crime, her confession is kept from the courtroom. Tragically, she is later found dead, prompting the sheriff’s department to uncover a shocking conspiracy: she and the pharmacist had plotted to eliminate her husband, only for the pharmacist to turn on her afterward.
